Avalanche kills 1 in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- One person died in an avalanche in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul Oblast, eastern Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said Tuesday.

A statement said three locals gathering firewood near the mountains were hit by an avalanche on Jan. 21. While two men managed to escape, the third was trapped under the snow mass.

Last year, Kyrgyzstan witnessed 104 snow avalanches that killed 11 people. Enditem
