Airstrikes kill 7 Taliban insurgents in Afghan northern province

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least seven Taliban militants were killed and 16 others wounded during two separate airstrikes conducted against Taliban hideouts in Kunduz and neighboring Baghlan provinces, north of Afghanistan on Monday night, local officials said Tuesday.

"Air forces aircrafts targeted the hideouts of Taliban militants in Khan Abad district of Kunduz province on Monday night, as a result five armed militants were killed and five others wounded," governor for Khan Abad district, Hayatullah Amiri, told Xinhua.

Similarly, the security forces helicopter gunships raided Taliban's positions in Dand-e-Shahabudin area of Baghlan province late Monday night, killing two militants and injuring 11 others," Nasratullah Jamshidi an army spokesman in northern region told Xinhua.

Taliban militants have yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
