PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea declared Tuesday that Feb. 8 will be marked as the founding anniversary of the Korean People's Army.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Congress on Monday approved a stopgap spending bill to end a three-day government shutdown, sending it to President Donald Trump for his signature.

WASHINGTON -- The United States is "very alert" to the ongoing situation about Turkey's offensive against U.S.-backed Kurdish militia in northern Syria, said U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis on Monday.

SEOUL -- South Korea's trade minister said Tuesday that the country planned to file a petition with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the United States for its "unfair" safeguard measures on South Korea-made washing machines and solar cells.

JAKARTA -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Jakarta on Tuesday, but it was not potential for tsunami, said Dedi Sugianto, an official of the meteorology and geophysics agency.
