DAVOS, Switzerland -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) raised its global growth forecast for 2018 and 2019 on Monday by 0.2 percentage point to 3.9 percent, due to increased global growth momentum and the expected impact of the recently approved U.S. tax policy changes.
The upward revision was announced by Maurice Obstfeld, IMF economic counsellor and director of research, at a press conference on Update of the World Economic Outlook in Davos, Switzerland. (IMF-Forecast-Davos)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump still plans to travel to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum (WEF) this week if the federal government reopens as expected, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Monday.
"If all things go as expected this afternoon with the reopening of the government, which we expect that they will, the president's delegation will leave tomorrow and the president will continue on his trip later in the week," Sanders said at a regular press briefing. (US-Trump-Davos)

BAGHDAD -- Eleven Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Monday during an operation in Hawijah area in the western part of Iraq's Kirkuk province, a local police source told Xinhua.
A joint force from local police and paramilitary tribal fighters carried out a search campaign looking for IS militants in several villages in the rugged area of Zab in west of the town of Hawijah, which located some 230 km north of Baghdad, the source said on condition of anonymity. BERLIN -- The public prosecutor of Oldenburg, Germany charged convicted serial killer Niels Hoegel for 97 additional counts of murder on Monday, Spiegel online reported.
