Belarus to strengthen border protection in 2018

Xinhua,January 23, 2018 Adjust font size:

MINSK, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday ordered to improve border protection service and signed the resolution on the protection of the state border in 2018, the presidential press service said.

"Border security and the situation on the Belarusian border are the main priorities of the country's policy. It is connected with the international situation around Belarus," Lukashenko said.

The resolution on the protection of the state border was adopted in connection with the ongoing migration crisis in the EU, the increasing terrorist threat in the countries of Western Europe, and the high risk of weapons, ammunition, explosives and other means of terror being smuggled to Belarus, the president said while approving the document.

"We need to step up efforts to modernize our border infrastructure, create normal conditions for border service, build border outposts, apply cutting-edge technologies in border protection," he said. Enditem
