Singapore stocks close 0.54 pct higher

SINGAPORE, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went up 0.54 percent or 19.07 points to close at 3,569.43.

A total of 1.84 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.39 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.05 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 247 to 177.

The STI index closed up 0.82 percent or 29.05 points to close at 3,550.36 last Friday. Enditem
