CANBERRA -- Australia's foreign minister has reportedly stepped in to ease tensions in the Pacific after an Australian senator said that China was lending money to smaller countries in the Pacific on unfavorable terms.
According to The Australian newspaper on Saturday, Julie Bishop has made contact with Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi to discuss comments made by Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, who accused China of providing loans to Pacific nations on unfavorable terms and constructing "useless buildings" and "roads to nowhere" in the region. KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- At least 15 insurgents including two commanders were killed and seven others injured during Afghan forces operations in Kunduz province, north of Afghanistan on Friday night, a local official said Saturday.
"Security and defense forces launched military operations in Chahar Dara district of Kunduz province, killing 15 insurgents including their two senior commanders and injuring seven others," Abdul Khalil Khalili, a police spokesman in northern region told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Militants)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan said on Saturday that Indian cross-border firing has killed five civilians and injured 22 others in three days.
The Pakistani foreign ministry said Indian forces continued firing along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary on Saturday, which killed an elderly civilian and injured two girls. (Pakistan-India Firing)

HANOI -- The last plenary session of the 26th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) ended here Saturday, setting a new vison for the forum's development.
The meeting on Saturday approved the Hanoi Declaration, a joint communique and 14 resolutions. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, chairwoman of Vietnam's National Assembly, said the declaration defines a new vision for Asia-Pacific parliamentary partnership after 25 years of development.
