CAPE TOWN, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) - The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Saturday.

-- The City of Cape Town voted on Friday to both limit mayor Patricia De Lille's powers to handle the drought crisis, and to introduce punitive tariff measures for residents.

This came after the city withdrew the proposal to introduce a controversial water levy earlier in the day. (News24)

-- A South Africa-based businessman, Frank Buyanga, has made an offer to the new Zimbabwe government to fund and capitalize Sovereign Wealth Fund, which he says can assist start-ups in that fledgling country.

The wealthy entrepreneur was responding to a call from the Zimbabwe government, which desperately needs investment to revive its comatose economy. (Independent Online)

-- The African National Congress' National Executive Committee (NEC) has agreed that President Jacob Zuma must step down before election campaigns for 2019, sources said.
