MOSCOW, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- A teenager armed with an ax injured five fellow students and a teacher at a secondary school in Buryatia, a republic in Russia's eastern Siberia region, the republican government said in a statement Friday.

According to preliminary information, the teen threw a bottle of incendiary liquid on a window of the school in Ulan-Ude, capital of Buryatia, and then hit the people running out with the ax.

The six injured people were taken to hospital along with the teen, who was hurt while being detained, the statement said.

The investigating committee said criminal proceedings have been started against the teen for the attempted murder of two or more people.

The incident came after 14 students and a teacher were wounded Monday in a knife fight started by two teens at a secondary school in Perm, a city close to the Ural Mountains. Enditem
