BISHKEK, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Road accidents claimed 907 lives in Kyrgyzstan in 2017, including 104 children, traffic safety authorities said Friday.

There were 6,346 road accidents in 2017, which though 8.1 percent less than in 2016, was still a big number for a small country like Kyrgyzstan, said Ymanaly Sarkulov, deputy head of the Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at a press conference.

"We will make even greater efforts to reduce the (number of) accidents," Sarkulov said.

Data provided at the press conference showed that 86.2 percent of the accidents were caused by errant drivers while 6.7 percent were due to pedestrians violating traffic rules. Enditem
