Woman gives birth on train near Tokyo

TOKYO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Firefighters rushed a women to hospital Friday after she gave birth on a train at a station in Chiba Prefecture, close to Tokyo, local media reported.

East Japan Railway Co., operator of the train bound for Tsuchiura in Ibaraki Prefecture, from Tokyo's Shinagawa Station, said the baby girl was born while the train was stopped at Kashiwa Station in northwestern Chiba Prefecture.

The baby was born at around 1:40 p.m. local time, the operator said, adding that when a conductor dashed to the scene following an emergency platform alarm sounding, the women was already giving birth.

The baby's birth caused minor delays on some train lines. Enditem
