German shares gain 0.74 pct Thursday

FRANKFURT, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- German stocks rose on Thursday, with the benchmark DAX index up 97.47 points, or 0.74 percent, to close at 13,281.43 points.

German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies won the most among the blue chips, with its shares up 4.02 percent. Chemical group BASF and sportswear and equipment maker Adidas rose by 2.35 percent and 2.00 percent respectively.

Pharmaceutical company Merck lost the most among the blue chips, by falling 1.20 percent. Automotive manufacturer Volkswagen and energy group RWE down by 1.08 percent and 1.08 percent respectively.

BASF was the most-traded share with a turnover of 367.76 million euros (449.95 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
