Singapore stocks close 0.58 pct lower

SINGAPORE, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.58 percent or 20.6 points to close at 3,521.31.

A total of 1.75 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.32 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.00 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 255 to 199.

The STI index closed down 0.23 percent or 8.3 points to close at 3,541.91 Wednesday. Enditem
