CAPE TOWN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South Africa's major news outlets on Thursday:

-- While some of President Jacob Zuma's staunch supporters are ready to see him leave the presidency this week, others have warned African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa that removing Zuma now could shutter his fragile hold on the party and the unity they have portrayed.

The ANC is holding its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting this week, where it is expected to discuss Zuma's fate as head of state. (News24)

-- According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), six more people have died after contracting listeria.

The NICD said on Wednesday it is the largest documented listeriosis outbreak South Africa has ever experienced. (Independent Online)

-- Nigeria's new High Commissioner to South Africa Ahmed Musa Ibeto said on Wednesday there is a need for intensified engagement among government and civilian organizations, to harmonise tense relations between Nigerians and local citizens.
