KIEV, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least ten people died in Ukraine over the past three days because of freezing weather that gripped the country, local media reported Wednesday, citing regional authorities.

According to the reports, four people died in link with cold in western Lviv region, two weather-related deaths were confirmed in Kiev, while the rest fatalities occurred in four separate Ukrainian regions.

The majority of the victims were homeless people, who failed to find a shelter amid the sudden temperature drop.

The temperatures in many Ukrainian regions have plunged to below 15 degrees Celsius on Monday after being above zero for more than a week.

According to the meteorologists, the temperatures in Ukraine will slightly rise in the coming days, but the country is facing a severe snowstorm.

In January and February of 2012, the cold snap in Ukraine has claimed the lives of more than 100 people, with most of them found dead on the streets. Enditem
