CAPE TOWN, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South Africa's major news outlets on Wednesday:

-- The South African Revenue Service (SARS) said on Tuesday a speech made by Peter Hain, a Labor Party politician in Britain's House of Lords, about the tax collection agency being linked to corruption was "unfortunate and regrettable."

Hain on Monday accused London-headquartered law firm Hogan Lovells of being complicit in state capture due to the work it did for SARS.(Fin24)

-- The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks, on Tuesday refuted claims of an alleged impending arrest pertaining to the controversial Gupta brothers.
