Xinhua,January 17, 2018 Adjust font size:

TIRANA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Albania started on Tuesday the implementation of the "vetting" law, shortlisting the first 36 judges and prosecutors to undergo this process.

The judges and prosecutors who will be vetted were determined on Tuesday through casting of lots by Albania's Independent Qualification Commission, a body set up in the framework of the "vetting" law.

The Commission informed in a press release that the vetting procedures on the subjects that would be vetted had already begun in accordance with the law No 84/2016 "On vetting judges and prosecutors in the Republic of Albania."

The first 36 judges and prosecutors include directors of courts and prosecutions are among the around 800 judges, prosecutors of Albanian justice system who will undergo this process.

The "vetting" law is the key law of justice reform, deemed as the main barrier that Albania has to overcome in order to open accession negotiations with the European Union. Enditem
