Red Star lose to Russian Khimki 79-70 in Euroleague

BELGRADE, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Russian Khimki beat Serbian Red Star 79-70 on Tuesday in the 18th round of of the Euroleague when the home team squandered lead down the stretch.

Red Star took an early lead in front of 6,000 people at the Aleksandar Nikolic hall by 21-14 in the first quarter, and maintained it until halftime by 37-31.

Red Star hung on with a slim 2-point lead to enter the fourth quarter, when the team from Moscow made a strong comeback to win the decisive quarter by 27-16 and the game.

Alexey Shved scored 29 points to lead the Russian team with James Anderson adding 14 points and Malcolm Thomas 11.

Taylor Rochestie led Red Star with 27 points, 7 assists and 9 rebounds and Nemanja Dangubic chipped in 20 points.

The victory secured Khimki's position among the top 8 teams in the standings, while Red Star are one step back towards their goal to qualify to the playoffs. Enditem
