France's Renault reports 8.5 pct growth in 2017 worldwide sales

PARIS, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Renault, France's second biggest carmaker, on Monday announced growing sales of its brands last year as demand mainly in Iran and Asian markets helped the group to bolster performance.
In a statement released on its website, the French carmaker saw its sales up by 8.5 percent last year compared with 2016 figures for the fifth consecutive year. It provided world markets with 3.76 million vehicles in 2017.
"We set a new group record with sales of over 3.7 million vehicles in 2017. We are continuing to increase sales volumes and market share across all regions. Our strategy of range renewal and geographic expansion is continuing to bring result," said Thierry Koskas member of the Executive Committee, EVP, Sales and Marketing Groupe Renault.
Demand of European markets rose by 5.6 percent where the auto maker sold 1.91 million units, prompting 0.2 percent increase in its market share to 10.8 percent.
Outside Europe, Renualt said it "increased volumes and market share across all regions." Representing almost half of the group sales, worldwide registrations jumped by 11.6 percent.
Thanks to the success of Tondar and Sandero, the auto manufacturer recorded the highest offer in Iran where sales surged by 49.3 percent. In China, it doubled sales to over 72,100 vehicles.
After suffering weak trend over the past four years, Russia gained momentum with 12.2 percent growth, the figures showed.
Looking ahead to its performance for the whole year of 2018, "the group is expected to reap the benefits of range renewal across all regions ... and to pursue growth in sales, driven by international markets, in connection with the new Drive The Future plan."
It expects global market to increase by 2.5 percent compared to last year with the forecast of Europe was at 1 percent.
Outside European markets, Renault set growth in Russian demand at 10 percent, while demand in India and China were estimated to rise by 6 percent and 5 percent respectively. Enditem
