TOKYO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as investor sentiment was lifted by record closes on Wall Street late last week, while heavily-weighted SoftBank Group made significant gains following reports its mobile unit may list its shares by the end of the year.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 61.06 points, or 0.26 percent, from Friday to end the day at 23,714.88.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.66 points, or 0.41 percent, to finish at 1,883.90.

Securities, real estate and bank-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play. Enditem
