Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's solid lead

TOKYO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as solid gains late last week on Wall Street set a positive tone for investors here.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 172.02 points, or 0.73 percent, from Friday to 23,825.84.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 15.62 points, or 0.83 percent, to 1,891.86.

Mining, securities and bank-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
