Number of tourists in BiH up 13.7 pct in first 11 months of 2017

SARAJEVO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) received 1,224,477 tourists between January and November of 2017, an increase of 13.7 percent year-on-year, figures from BiH's Agency for Statistics showed on Saturday.

There were 2,523,545 overnight stays during the period, a 12.4 percent increase year-on-year, according to the data.

Of the overall number of recorded overnight stays, the number of domestic tourists accounted for 27.8 percent, whereas that of foreign tourists was 72.2 percent, the statistics agency said.

In terms of the length of stay, the first place was taken by tourists from Malta with an average stay of 5.9 nights, followed by tourists from Kuwait with 3.7 nights, Ireland with 3.5 nights, and Qatar with 3.3 nights.

The greatest number of overnight stays was realized in hotels and similar accommodation with a share of 92.2 percent.

Being one of the fastest growing sectors in BiH, tourism brings significant amounts of money to the country's economy. During the previous years, BiH has seen a stable growth in the number of foreign tourists. Enditem
