Incumbent president Zeman, Jiri Drahos to advance to second round of Czech presidential election

PRAGUE, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The incumbent Czech President Milos Zeman and Science Academy former head Jiri Drahos will advance to the second round of the Czech presidential election, according to the data published by Czech Statistical Office (CSU) on Saturday.

In the 95.51 percent vote that has been calculated so far, Zeman had 39.20 percent of it and Drahos had 26.29 percent. Former diplomat Pavel Fischer had 10.09 percent, entrepreneur Michal Horacek 9.09 percent and doctor Marek Hilser 8.80 percent. Former prime minister Mirek Topolanek had 4.22 percent.

The turnout of the vote was 61.74 percent.

The first round of Czech presidential election which started at 14:00 on Friday and ended at 14:00 on Saturday afternoon.

According to Czech law, if none of the candidates could win an absolute majority of the vote, the two candidates with the strongest support will advance to the second round.

The second round of election is scheduled two weeks later on Jan. 26-27. Enditem
