Malaga sack Michel after dreadful start to the season

Xinhua,January 13, 2018 Adjust font size:

MADRID, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Liga Santander strugglers Malaga on Saturday sacked coach Michel Gonzalez following a disastrous start to the season.

Friday's 1-0 defeat away to Getafe leaves the club from the south of Spain with just 11 points from their first 19 matches of the season and have lost their last four matches without scoring a goal.

The club confirmed the sacking by Twitter in which they wished him luck for the future and will now search for a new coach as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.

Michel replaced 'Gato' Silva at Malaga last season and steered the club to a positive finish, but the sale of key players such as Ignacio Camacho and Carlos Kameni severely weakened the squad over the summer leaving the club ill-equipped to battle for survival. Enditem
