Jordan urges continued support to UNRWA

AMMAN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Thursday underlined the need for continued support to UNRWA so it can continue to provide services to the Palestinian refugees, state-run Petra news agency reported.

At a meeting with UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krahenbuhl, Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi said it was important for UNRWA to continue providing services in all fields of health, education and relief support.

The minister said it was the duty of the entire international community to support UNRWA until the plight of the Palestinian refugees is resolved in line with the international legitimacy resolutions.

The two sides also discussed financial challenges facing the agency, saying it was important for the international community to provide funding for the UN agency to face challenges, as the U.S. recently announced plans to reduce aid to UNRWA. Enditem
