TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted Soomar city in Iran's western Kermanshah province at 10:29 a.m. local time (0659 GMT) on Thursday, Iran's Seismological Center reported.

The epicenter, with a depth of 8 km, was initially determined to be at 33.778 degrees north latitude and 45.741 degrees east longitude.

An after-shake of 5.4-magnitude quake shook Soomar again at 11:07 a.m. local time (0737 GMT) on Thursday.

The tremor was felt in the neighboring Iilam and Kordestan provinces. People in Soomar rushed to the streets in panic, state IRIB TV said.

The tremor has caused no casualties so far and assessment teams have been dispatched to Soomar and the suburban villages. Enditem
