Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning as yen's rise dents exporters

TOKYO, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning as exporter issues weighed on the market owing to the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 80.89 points, or 0.34 percent, from Wednesday to 23,707.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 7.27 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,884.84.

Transportation equipment, metal product and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
