BERLIN, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The "Wolves" have signed attacking midfielder Renato Steffen from Swiss champions Basel, both clubs confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.

Wolfsburg have sealed their second winter signing as Renato Steffen has penned a contract until June 2021. Both clubs agreed to keep silence over further transfer details.

"Renato has developed very well at Basel and has become an important player there. He is a true mentality player, a fighter who is characterized by his efficiency and commitment," Wolfsburg head coach Martin Schmidt said.

The 26-year-old new arrival, who received jersey no. 8, played since January 2016 for Basel where he scored 15 goals in 63 appearances. Steffen is since October 2015 part of Switzerland' s national team and made five caps ever since.

"I am very happy to play for Wolfsburg. The club enjoys an excellent reputation in Switzerland. My goal is to help the team as soon as possible," Renato Steffen said.

The "Wolves" sit currently on the 12th position of the standings. They face Borussia Dortmund at the closer of the 18th round in Bundesliga on Sunday. Enditem
