1st LD Writethru: Huge fire reported at plant near Dublin airport

DUBLIN, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- A huge fire broke out at a plant near the airport of Irish capital Dublin on Wednesday morning, reported local media RTE.

According to the report, the fire broke out at about 9:00 a.m. local time at a vehicle recycling plant located very close to Dublin Airport.

Pictures posted on Twitter show that huge plumes of smoke billowing over the fire site can be clearly seen from the airport.

Eight units of Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) have been called in to fight the blaze. An aerial drone unit has also been employed at the scene to help direct the fight against the fire, said a DFB officer.

A number of people working at the plant have been evacuated to safer places, said firefighters, adding that no one has been found injured in the fire yet.

Firefighters have advised residents living in the nearby areas to close their windows to avoid smoke blowing into their homes. Local road authorities have also cautioned motorists passing by the fire area about the possible poor visibility caused by the smoke.

Dublin Airport said the smoke of the fire has not affected the operations of the airport.

The cause of the fire is not known at the moment, said local media quoting firefighters, adding that an investigation will be carried out as soon as the fire is put out.
