MEHTERLAM, Afghanistan, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Taliban key commander Lal Agha in the eastern Laghman province was killed on Tuesday, provincial government spokesman Sarhadi Zawak said.

"Acting upon intelligence report, the security forces stormed the hideout of Taliban notorious commander Lal Agha in Salinegar area of Alinegar district at around 02:00 p.m. local time today, killing him on the spot," Zawak told Xinhua.

"Lal Agha was infamous for organizing roadside bombs, targeting security forces and attacking soft targets to terrorize the people and his killing could be a major setback to the insurgents in Laghman and adjoining provinces," the official added.

Taliban militants are yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
