BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.13 percent, at 3,413.90 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.57 percent higher at 11,447.09 points. The ChiNext Index,China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.14 percent to close at 1,803.59 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 111.88 points, or 0.36 percent, to 31,011.41 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 30,852.43 and 31,056.7. Turnover totaled 133.40 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 17.06 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks finished higher Tuesday with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a fresh 26-year high as market sentiment here was buoyed by the Nasdaq Composite Index rising overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 135.46 points, or 0.57 percent, from Friday to close the day at 23,849.99, marking its highest close since Nov. 15, 1991.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closed up 0.36 percent or 12.47 points to close at 3524.65.

A total of 1.83 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.22 billion Singapore dollars (about 915.25 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 237 to 210.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Tuesday.

Benchmark indices ended at fresh record closing high amid consolidation as investors await December quarter earnings season that will be kicked off by TCS, Infosys and IndusInd Bank later this week. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,443.19, 90.46 points or 0.26 percent up compared to its previous close at 34,352.79.
