Nice defender Souquet sidelined two to three months due to foot injury

PARIS, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Nice right back Arnaud Souquet was expected to be sidelined for two to three months following his early exit in French Cup, the Ligue 1 club announced on Monday.

Souquet was forced to leave the pitch in the 76th minute of last Saturday's French Cup match against Toulouse.

"This was confirmed on Monday: Arnaud Souquet suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. The team's most used player in the first half of the season will now be unavailable for a period of between two and three months," Nice said in a statement.

Souquet, 25, played 18 league matches for Nice this season. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

"The team wish a prompt recovery to the full-back, and have no doubts that he will come back even stronger in the spring," added the club.

Nice, currently ranked sixth in Ligue 1, will host Monaco in French League Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday. Enditem
