Kyrgyz authorities close websites for publishing extremist materials

Xinhua,January 08, 2018 Adjust font size:

BISHKEK, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 159 Internet websites and accounts in social networks identified to contain information of extremism and terrorism were closed in Kyrgyzstan in 2017, the press service of the country's Prosecutor General's Office reported Monday.

All these websites and accounts were closed by a court decision, the report said.

Acting by application of the Prosecutor General's Office, the court has ordered the blocking of access to the websites and accounts which were found to be disseminating extremist and terrorist information, the report specified.

In particular, the report mentioned the websites of Hizb ut-Tahrir-al-Islami, the Taliban, the Islamic State and other organizations whose activities are banned in the republic.

The heightened attention of the Prosecutor General's Office is focused on the use of the Internet by various radical movements and organizations for propagandizing the ideology of extremism and terrorism, as well as the recruitment of mercenaries for participation in armed conflicts, according to the report.
