Xinhua,January 07, 2018 Adjust font size:

NEW DELHI, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Four powerlifting players were killed and two others injured seriously Sunday after a car they were travelling in hit road divider and crashed into a roadside pole, police said.

The accident took place on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway.

"This morning six athletes were going from Delhi to Panipat in their car, carrying their powerlifting kits, when they met with the accident at Alipur village, near Singhu border between Delhi and Haryana," a police official said.

"The impact of crash was so severe that the car rolled over several times with its roof getting completely blown off, before hitting a pole and killing four of them on the spot."

Police officials suspect over-speeding to be the reason behind the accident.

The injured athletes were admitted at a private hospital in Delhi.

Reports said there was dense fog during the time of accident.

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain the actual reason behind the accident. Enditem
