RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sporting Lisbon on Saturday announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Wendel on a six-year deal worth 10 million euros.

The Portuguese outfit reportedly beat off interest from a host of European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Porto and CSKA Moscow.

"I'm very grateful to the club for fighting to get me here," Wendel said in a statement on Sporting's official website.

"I'm fulfilling a dream by coming here and I hope to help bring success for the fans."

Wendel played 58 matches and scored seven goals for Rio de Janeiro side Fluminense in 2017 after being promoted from the club's youth ranks.

He will reportedly earn 600,000 euros a year plus performances bonuses.

Sporting are currently second in Portugal's first division standings, two points behind leaders Porto. Enditem
