American man sentenced to 27 years for dismembering girlfriend

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- A man living on the outskirts of Seattle on the U.S. west coast has been sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for killing his girlfriend in 2016, local media reported Friday.

The man, now 39, who was identified as John Robert Charlton, was convicted of strangling and dismembering his girlfriend, Ingrid Lyne, in a bathtub at her home in April 2016.

Charlton pleaded guilty last October to first-degree murder in the death of Lyne, a 40-year-old nurse and divorced mother of three girls.

Court records showed that Charlton met Lyne via social media and had dated for about one month.

The couple went to a bar on April 28, 2016, where Charlton got drunk and then returned to Lyne' s house in Renton city, 11 miles (about 18 km) away from downtown Seattle.

Lyne's former husband found her missing the next day when he was trying to drop off their daughters at her home and notified Lyne's mother.

The family called police for Lyne's missing, whose dismembered remains were found in a garbage bin, while more of her bodies were discovered somewhere else over the next few days.

Charlton was arrested on April 11, 2016. Enditem
