Uganda FA President Magogo tips Cecafa teams to win Africa Cup of Nations

KAMPALA, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The President of the Uganda FA, Moses Magogo has said teams in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region have the potential to win the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) title.

In an interview with Xinhua, Magogo said that since the likes of Uganda have now returned to the big stage of the Africa Cup of Nations since 1978, all the other teams in the Cecafa region can also do it and win the trophy. "We are slowly but steadily improving in the region. But we need to plan better which will put us in line to be dominant and be able to win the Afcon title," he added.

Magogo said the Cecafa region has the potential to win Afcon and take teams to the FIFA World Cup. "But it calls for systems, structures, governance, long term planning and engaging the respective governments for modern legislation, infrastructure and funding of national teams," explained Magogo who is also a member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee.

The other two teams in the Cecafa that have qualified for the Afcon in the last 20 years include Kenya and Rwanda that all made it in the 2004 event. Enditem
