Nigeria says perpetrators of Benue attack must be punished

Xinhua,January 05, 2018 Adjust font size:

LAGOS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria Thursday said perpetrators of the New Year killings in central north Benue State should be brought to book.

Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Danbazzaau said in Makurdi, the state capital, that the government will not allow people who take up arms against the defenseless in the society to go unpunished.

The minister stressed that efforts would be intensified to fish out the perpetrators.

He described the people that carried out the heinous act as criminals, reiterating that the long arm of the law would catch up with them.

He assured that the government was working assiduously to ensure that heinous acts perpetrated across the country were nipped in the bud permanently.

He condoled with the families that lost their loved ones in the unfortunate attack.

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen invaded Guma and Logo areas of Benue on Jan.1, and attacked members of the communities.

There have also been killings recorded in Kaduna, Kwara and Rivers states since the beginning of the New Year. Enditem
