French shares gain 1.55 pct Thursday

PARIS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- French shares edged up on Thursday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 1.55 percent, or 82.41 points, to close at 5,413.69 points.

A total of 37 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

French banking company Credit Agricole advanced 4.52 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French aeronautic giant Safran rose 3.57 percent, and International French multinational luxury group Kering gained 2.63 percent.

European real estate company Unibail-Rodamco went down by 0.47 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. Steel manufacturing corporation ArcelorMittal edged down 0.30 percent and French ophthalmic company Essilor Intl lost 0.18 percent. Enditem
