LONDON, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least one person has been injured and hospitalized in a fire in a 12-storey building in the Northern Quarter in central Manchester on Saturday.

The person has been suffering the effects of "inhaling smoke," the Sky news reported.

The report said that the fire has spread to multiple floors but is now "well under control" and the building is understood to have been safely evacuated.

Twelve fire crews were called to tackle the blaze on the upper floors of the building in Joiner Street, inside the city's Northern Quarter.

The incident came months after the Grenfell Tower fire claimed the lives of 71 people in London in June. Enditem
