U.S. condemns deadly church attack in Cairo

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday condemned a deadly attack outside a church in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

In a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Trump expressed his condolences to the Egyptian people, repeating U.S. commitment to fighting terrorism, according to a statement released by the White House.

At least 10 people were killed in a shootout outside Mar Mina church in Cairo's district of Helwan on Friday.

The Egyptian health ministry said the killed include one attacker and one policeman, who are Muslims, and eight Copts.

The attack came in the run-up to Orthodox Christmas celebrations next week.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Enditem
