LUSAKA, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- The Zambian government has slaughtered more than 8,000 pigs infected with the African Swine Fever in the northern part of the country as part of measures to stop the spread of the disease. (Times of Zambia)

-- Health authorities in Zambia intend to introduce new and improved female contraceptives next year.

Ministry of Health National HIV Treatment Coordinator Lloyd Mulenga said the availability of the improved contraceptive was as a result of the current low female condom usage among women in the country. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- More than 300 villagers in Zambia's Chongwe district in Lusaka Province have dragged a research institute to court for allegedly allocating part of their land to Russia for a nuclear project.

The villagers have sued the National Institute for Scientific Research in a high court for allocating their land to Russia for purposes of setting up a nuclear plant despite the land in question being in the middle of an existing residential area. (Daily Nation). Enditem
