BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.78 percent to 3,306.12 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.15 percent higher at 11,021.83 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.17 percent to close at 1,758.82 points.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closed down 0.22 percent or 7.55 points to close at 3378.16.

A total of 558.3 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 522.4 million Singapore dollars (about 388.6 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 197 to 157.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dipped 13.20 points, or 0.54 percent, to settle at 2,427.34. Trading volume stood at 221.9 million shares worth 5.6 trillion won (5.2 billion U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 2.26 points, or 0.13 percent to close at 1,752.48 points.

Some 7.94 billion shares worth 49.10 billion baht (about 1.50 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended slightly lower in thin trading on Tuesday as investors opted to secure gains after the benchmark Nikkei stock index hit a fresh 26-year high a day earlier.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 46.49 points, or 0.20 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,892.69.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 114.06 points on Tuesday, up 0.82 points or 0.73 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 49.182 million shares worth some 751.536 billion Vietnamese dong (some 33.5 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 27 percent in volume and 27.9 percent in value against the previous trading session.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,759.99, down 0.25 points or 0.01 percent, and the Emas was at 12,657.08, down 4.67 points or 0.13 percent.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Tuesday up 1.93 percent compared to the previous trading day.
