NEW DELHI, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people have been killed and 24 others injured after a passenger bus fell into a river in northern Indian state of Rajasthan on Saturday, police said.

The accident occurred at Dubi in the state's Sawai Madhopur district this morning.

"The bus carrying 50 people fell into Banas river while crossing a bridge over it after the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle," a senior police official said.

While 20 bodies have been fished out of the river, those injured have been admitted to a local hospital, where the condition of at least 12 people are said to be serious, he said.
