TAIPEI, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hsu Wei-ling moved to the top of the leader-board through two rounds of the CTBC Ladies Open on Friday as the local player fired a tournament best six-under 66 for a one stroke lead.
Through 36 holes at Orient (Taipei) Golf and Country Club, Hsu was on two-under 136. Another local star, Teresa Lu, the world No. 31 and top-ranked player in the field, carded a two-under 70 to sit second, while Chinese national team player Pan Yanhong was two shots off the pace in third after a round of 72.
Playing under sunny but windy conditions, US LPGA Tour regular Hsu made the most of her early start to card a round that featured seven birdies and one birdie at the China LPGA Tour-TLPGA Tour co-sanctioned event.
Fresh off an 18-day break, the 22-year-old said she had yet to reach her best condition.
"Yesterday on the front nine I was focusing on the action of my swing for a long time and got a bad result. Today, I focused on my shots just trying to let my action fit the course and I made it," Hsu said.
"It's interesting to play in the wind, I want to enjoy myself."
Making her only appearance at home this year, Lu, a four-time winner in Japan this season, posted an erratic round featuring five birdies and three bogeys to get into contention.
"The three bogeys happened because I over-judged the wind, but generally I am satisfied with my play today," said the newlywed Lu who had her husband serving as her caddie.
"Tomorrow, I think the wind will be softer than today. I still need to pay more attention to the wind."
Hebei native Pan briefly held the lead after getting to three-under through 11 holes but her hard work was wiped out when she finished with bogeys over the final three holes.
"I played well on the first 15 holes. From hole 16 I got in trouble with my putter. My hand began to shake on the green," said the former power-lifter, a five-time winner on the CLPGA Tour.
"Tomorrow I will be more aggresive, try to make birdie at the first three par fives. On the 18th hole par is okay."
Thailand's Saranporn Langkulgasettrin, the CLPGA Tour Order of Merit leader, improved to even-par 72 to sit five shots off the lead.
Chinese Taipei amateur Hou Yu-sang and Hong Kong player Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching, the overnight co-leaders, were a shot further back after both struggled to rounds of five-over 77. Enditem
