BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.09 percent, at 3,297.06 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.22 percent lower at 11,094.16 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.58 percent to close at 1,779.34 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed slightly higher Friday on U.S. shares advancing overnight but gains were capped by investor caution following pro-independence parties in Catalonia winning a regional election in Spain.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 36.66 points, or 0.16 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,902.76, marking its highest close since Dec. 11.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 210.95 points, or 0.72 percent, to 29,578.01 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,413.86 and 29,578.01. Turnover totaled 71.83 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.19 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closed up 0.09 percent or 3.18 points to close at 3385.71.

A total of 1.19 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 747.4 million Singapore dollars (about 557.8 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 196 to 177.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Friday as benchmarks indices remained strong in late trade, backed by technology, oil and banking & financial stocks.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 33,940.30, 184.02 points or 0.55 percent up compared to its previous close at 33,756.28.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 5.17 points, or 0.30 percent to close at 1,742.08 points.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 113.03 points on Friday, down 0.53 points or 0.47 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 46.966 million shares worth some 643.660 billion Vietnamese dong (some 28.7 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday, a decrease of 17.5 percent in volume and 28.3 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 952.32 points on Friday, up 6.26 points, or 0.66 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 197.584 million shares worth 7.792 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (347.38 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 124 stocks went up, 148 stocks fell down, while 54 stocks remained unchanged.
