Tokyo stocks mixed in morning as Catalonia poll results in focus

TOKYO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were mixed Friday morning as reports that pro-independence parties in Catalonia won a narrow advantage in a regional election in Spain captured the market's attention.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 5.92 points, or 0.03 percent, from Thursday to 22,860.18.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 4.46 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,827.07.

Pharmaceutical and construction issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.

Mining and marine transportation issues, meanwhile, led notable gainers. Enditem
