SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and eight others injured after an under-construction house collapsed in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Thursday.

The house collapsed in Reasi district, 294 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"In a tragic incident here late last evening, a house collapsed killing five people on the spot and injuring eight others, some of them critically," a senior police official posted in Reasi told Xinhua.

Reports said locals immediately carried out rescue work and pulled out eight people alive from the debris.

"The injured were taken to nearest medical facility and among them, four were at government medical college Jammu hospital for advanced treatment owing to their critical condition," the police official said.

According to police, the house collapsed after its roof caved in.

"The deceased and injured were locals who were helping the owner in construction of the house," police said. Enditem
