19 insurgents arrested in N. Afghanistan

MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Up to 19 insurgents were arrested during a special operation in Afghanistan northern province of Balkh, a local official said Thursday.

The security forces launched overnight operations in Fatima Khil area of Chamtal district resulting in arrest of 19 militants, Nasratullah Jamshidi, an army spokesman in the northern region, said.

The Taliban militants who have been fighting the government forces in parts of the province haven't commented on the report. Enditem
