BERLIN, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Striker Anthony Ujah returned to his former club Mainz, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old striker will reinforce Mainz' offense with the start of the second half of the season after putting pen to paper on a deal until summer 2021.
"Anthony Ujah is an athletic, determined and prolific striker, who has proven his qualities in the Bundesliga. We are delighted that he has opted to spend his future at Mainz," sporting director Rouven Schoeder said.
Ujah knows the Bundesliga as he spent two years at Mainz before moving to Cologne in 2013. After two years with the "Billy Goats" he joined Werder Bremen. In the summer 2016 he left the Bundesliga and transferred to Liaoning F.C.
"I am very happy that I return to Mainz because I have only fond memories of my time here. I am looking forward to the Bundesliga as well. I want to help the team in the second half of the season to reach the goals of the club," Ujah said.
Mainz currently occupy a disappointing 15th place in the standings. They sit only two points adrift of the drop zone. The "Nullfuenfer" have booked the quarterfinals in the German Cup with a 3-1 win over Stuttgart on Tuesday. Enditem
